Volunteer IVo ices. that he has paid all money due by him under these Regulations or the rules of the corps ; and provided further that the capitation allowance for such Volunteer shall be paid to the corps in winch he may be serving at the termination of the A r olunteer year. 70. A Volunteer will not be allowed to resign until after a year's service except on account of ill-health or departure from the colony. Should a Volunteer, after enrolment, determine to reside in another part of the colony, he may be transferred to a corps of the same arm, should one exist in the district to which he may proceed, or may obtain his discharge as provided in paragraph 71. 71. If a A r oluntcer wishes to quit tho Force, he may, on showing sufficient cause, be permitted to do so either without payment or on payment of such sum as the Minister, on the recommendation of the Officer Commanding the Corps, shall fix. All smns so paid shall be credited to the funds of the corps the discharged man served in. 72. No Volunteer who is permitted to quit the force will receive his discharge until he has given up iv good order, fair wear and tear only excepted, all articles of Government property issued to him. 73. The Commanding Officer of a corps is to give to any Volunteer who voluntarily quits it, and who lias complied with the conditions contained in paragraph 72, a certificate. This certificate is to be presented to the Officer in Command of the District, who will furnish such Arolunteer, if requested to do so, with a discharge certificate. 75. AVhen a A'oluntcer, temporarily absent from his district, attends the drills of another corps, the Officer Commanding that corps, or officer of 2>crmanent staff, will furnish him with a certificate of the drills he has attended. 94. Recruits on enrolment in Garrison or Head-Quarter corps, who have not previously received a military training, will be formed into squads irrespective of the corps for which they enrolled, and will have to attend at least' thirty hours' drill (exclusive of target and judging-distance practice) before being permitted to join the ranks. 95. AVhen reported proficient in their drills they will be passed by an officer of the permanent staff, and will then be entitled to receive a certificate of efficiency, which will carry with it capitation for the Aohm- rtcer year in which they enrolled, provided that the period mider instruction has not exceeded six mnnths. 90. A free issue of Ja serge suit will be made to these recruits. 97. Men wishing to join a corps who have served in any regular force or undergone a military training will be permitted to enrol at any "time during the Volunteer year, provided they pass in drill to the satisfaction of the Officer Commanding the District, or officer of the permanent staff; but these men will not be entitled to capitation grant for the year in which they were enrolled, unless they have attended the required number of Government parades. 112. The Officer Commanding the District may order such other parades as he may consider necessary, but not more than three parades in any one month will bo allowed to count for capitation. 119. No parade, at which less than twothirds of the strength of a corps is present, is at any time to be credited to a corps as an inspection or Government parade towards capitation or efficiency. 135. A capitation allowance of £2 10s per annum will be granted to "efficient " members of Garrison and Head-Quarter corps. A member to be deemed an "efficient" Atolunteer must have, during the year, (n) Attended twelve Government parades or drills, four of which must have been by daylight, and each of such parades or drills not less than two hours' duration, one of which must have been exclusively devoted to drill ; (4) Fired in the first and second periods target practice; (c) Gone through first and second periods of judging-distance practice. 13S. No parade or thill is to be reckoned towards capitation if less than two-thirds of the strength of the respective corps are present under instruction. 22G. Any member of a A r oluntecr corps, who by reason of repeated absence from parade drills is returned as a " non-efficient for any Volunteer year, shall, in addition to any fines inflicted for such absence, be fined a further sran equal to the amount of capitation he could have earned, and which amount is to be paid in to the credit of the funds of the corps he is ser\ing iv. 227. Officers Commanding corps will, on the last day of each quarter, furnish to officers in command of districts a return of all fines inflicted, recovered, or remitted during the quarter. 225. In the event of there being any outstanding fines, the Officer Commanding the District will, after due inquiry, cause them to be remitted, or direct proceedings to be taken, as the case may be, by the Officer in Conunand of the corps for the recovery of the same. 220. Officers Commanding Districts are strictly enjoined to sec that this return is regularly furnished, and that all fines not remitted and unpaid are, in justice to other members of the corps, duly recovered. 255. Tunic : Scarlet, Imperial pattern ; facings : dark blue, piped with white cord ; eight white-metal buttons (of approved pattern) down front ; two buttons on waist at back, and one small button on each shoidder for strap. The initials of corps to be worked in white worsted on shoulder straps. Trousers : Black cloth, with scarlet welt, quarter of an inch wide, down each side seam. Helmet: Imperial pattern, with white-metal mountings of approved pattern. Sealed patterns lodged in the Defence Office. 205. Any member of the Volunteer Force absent from any Government parade or duty which he has been ordered to attend, unless with the permission of his Commanding Officer, or unless his absence shall have been accounted for by medical certificate, shall be fined a sum not less than 5s or exceeding £3. 2GO, Any member of the A r oluntccr Force who shall be absent from three consecutive parades, without the permission of his Commanding Officer, or without having forwarded a medical certificate of ill health, shall be liable to a fine not less than £1 or exceeding ,£3. 270. Any A r olunteer who shall appear drunk on parade, or on any military duty, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £5 ; and, if a non-commissioned officer, shall, in addition to such fine, be reduced to the ranks ; and, if an officer, shall, in addition to such fine, be deprived of his commission. Joining members arc requested to do so at once, in order that measurement may be taken for the new uniform to be transmitted by next outgoing mail.
