AUCKLAND.

This day. A settler named Archibald, Douglas alleges that he has discovered diamonds near Auckland. He is in possession ot some thirty semes bearing all the outward characteristics of diamonds, and which will withstand tho sulphuric acid test. Mr Robert Taylor's dwelling at Papakura was burned down on Friday. Ihe house and furniture was insured in the New Zealand office for £250. J T. Smith, landlord of the Exchange Hotel, stabbed himself in the throat on Saturday night with a penknife. A bushmau, name unknown, was brought up from Mercury Bay on Saturday, having cut his throat badly. The windpipe is severed.
