CHRISTCHURCH.
This day. A man named Joseph Wellknown, working at Mr. Seed's ilaxworks at Southbrook, got his right arm entangled in the scutching mill thisnioriiing, and the arm was torn completely oif below the elbow. The unfortunate sufferer was conveyed to Rangiora, where he was attended to by Drs. Williams and Downs. The Harbor Board have given their engineer, Mr Napier Bell, a present of .£2OO in recognition of his services in connection with the dock. The Board are favorable to the establishment of a Humane Society for the colony. The Board are Koinji: to distribute two hundred photographs of the opening ceremony as a means of advertising" the dock.
A contract lias been let for the erection of a sailors' home at Lyttelton, to cost £2-100.
