ONGA ONGA RACING CLUB'S MEETING.
This meeting was held at Onga Orara yesterday, and was fairly patronised. With the exception of one event all the v races were well competed for. For the Maiden Plate The Laird was made a strong favorite, but the winner turned up in Bruno. Owing to certain suspicious circumstances in connection with the running of The Laird, the stewards after the race met and disqualified Atkins, the jockey, for pulling, and so preventing his horse from winning. A totalisator was worked on the ground, but it was not extensively patronised by the public. The following are the results :— handicap hurdle race, Of 13 soys, H miles, over 6 flights of hurdles 3ft Gin high. Mr Tatham's Roebuck (Warren) .. 1 Mr Ward's Tui (Taylor) .. .. 2 The only other starter was Mermaid. The running- was cut out by Tui for threeparts of the distance, when Roebuck went to the front and won easily. MAIDEN PLATE, Of 10 soys, 1-i- miles, weight 9st, Mr Bailey's Bruno"(Rabone) .. .. 1 Mr Reihana's The Laird (Atkins) .. 2 Mr Watene's Matarika (Billy) .. .. 3 Three others started. The Laird took the lead at the start, Bruno being second, with Maggie May close up. Half-a-mile from the winning post Bruno took the lead, Laird being •" pulled by his jockey, ainU won-easily. Matarika ran well for third place. ONGA ONGA HANDICAP, Of 20 soys. ; 1£ miles. Mr Reihana's Kuni (Sutherland) ~ 1 Mr Pettit's Savannah (Shellam) . . 2 Mr Ingram's Lady Doby also ran. Savannah led for the first time round, when Kuni took the lead, and eventually won easily, Lady Doby not finishing. DISTRICT RACE, Of 10 soys.; 1} miles : weight 9st, Mr Drummoud's Arab Chief, a walk over. CONSOLATION HANDICAP, Of 3 soys. ; three-quarter of a mile : for all beaten horses. Mr Watene's Matarika ~ .. ~ 1 Mr Pettit's Savannah 2 Matarika won easily. STATION HACK RACE, <- Of 3 soys., with entrance added : for district horses ; distance, 1 mile ; weight, 9st. Mr Maekay's Snap 1 Four others started. MATCH. Mr Ellingham's Tomboy (Brinison) .. 1 Mr O'Connor's Parlor Maid . . .. 2 Parlor Maid made all the running, and led till entering the straight, when she was collared by Tomboy, who won by half-a-length. HACK RACE, Maud (Bailey) 1
