The Friendly Societies fete will be held on the Napier recreation ground, Carlylestreet, on Monday, and the public are requested to support the town and fete. The Foresters, Loyal United Friends, Protestant Alliance, and Hibernians, meet at their respective lodge-rooms at 9.30 to take part in the procession at 10 a.m. The Waipawa County Racing Club's annual race meeting takes place at Kaikora on Monday, the first race being started punctually at noon. Special trains will run to Kaikora in connection therewith, and Mr Fletcher will provide a cold collation all day at the Railway Hotel. Caledonian sports are the order of the day at Petane on Monday, and conveyances run at intervals during the day to convey passengers to and from the sports, Court Robin Hood, A.0.F., celebrates its anniversary on Monday evoning, by a social gathering and dance, to be held in Messrs Stuart and Co.'s store, Spit. A public ball takes place in the Town Hall, Hastings, on Monday evening. The steamer Manaia leaves port to-night at 12 o'clock on an excursion trip to Wairoa, returning on Monday evening. Mr Arthur McCartney describes the Woodthorpe races, to be run on Monday, as tho Goodwood of Hawke's Bay. He further intimates that no charge will be made for admission to tho ground, and that the booth will be " bossed " by himself. Rymer's coaches leave Newton's corner for the races at 9.30 a.m. on Monday.
A cold collation -will be on the table of the Temperance Hotel all day on Monday. The Meanee School district has been divided into two districts, to be hereafter known as the Meanee and Taradale districts respectively, and the boundaries of the new districts are published. Owing to Monday being a holiday, the office of the Permanent Building and Investment Society Trill be open for the receipt of subscriptions on Tuesday evening at the usual time. A public meeting of the ratepayers in the Taradale river district is convened to bo held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Taradale, on Thursday next, to receive statements and elect two councillors. Mr Lyndon will sell the dwelling house on the section adjoining the Napier district school by auction on Wednesday, the building to be removed within seven days afterwards. Tho Municipal Engineer invites separate tenders for forming Enfield road, and for building about* five chainß of sea wall to Beach road. Messrs Neal and Close want the public to remember their tables to-night. Messrs Blythe and Co. are offering black dress silk exceptionally cheap to-day. Messrs Newton and Co. quote prices for dark twilled sateen pompadours. Two gentlemen can obtain board in a private family on the hills, with home comforts, use of piano, &c. The public are requested not to forget Jacob's shilling table and fireworks to-night. A chestnut gelding is impounded at Hastings, and will be sold on the 13th proximo if not previously redeemed. ' Tbe advantages to be gained by visiting Yeucll's restaurant will be found set forth in an advertisement in our supplement today. Mr Denholm has been appointed agent at the Spit for Mr Woods, pharmaceutical chemist. A number of new advertisements will be found in our " Wanted " column.
