CHRISTCHURCH.
Decimber 30. A number of oases of nuisances arising from the bad drains were brought before the R.M. Court yesterday, in which the much-vexed question of compelling house-holders to connect with the deep sewers was again discussed. The Bench agreed with counsel for the prosecution that the only way to test the question as to whether persons could be compelled to connect with the sewer was for the Bench to make an order, and for the defendant and others interested to club together an appeal to the Supreme Court. The Bench would not shut their eyes to the fact that there were a number, of nuisances existing in the city through defective drainage of premises, and if the existing legislation could not meet the caoe it was advisable that it should be shown that such was so, in order that further legislation might provide a remedy.
