WANGANUI.

December 30. An Old English Fancy Fayre is being held here in aid of the new building for the Fire Brigade, and it is a complete success. The petition for a new trial in the case of Williamson, who was sentenced to twelve month's imprisonment for perjury at the last sitting of the District Court, is being almost unanimously signed. The defence, it is alleged, was most incomplete, and a deal of evidence to exculpate the accused is now coming forward. The vital statistics for the year are very favorable. There were registered 339 births, 87 deaths, and 82 marriages, as compared with 304 births, 95 deaths, and 72 marriages for 1881.
