The man Priestley, who was represented by Mr Ty leer, and Mrs Hamilton by Mr Theo. Cooper, were charged at the Police Court to-day with Hamilton's murder, and were remanded till Friday. Priestley was calm, but Mrs Hamilton was much agitated. Priestley has made three statements, each contradicting the other, re bis whereabouts on the night of the supposed murder, [A full account of trie circumstances in connection with this case appears in our fourth page.] Thomas Horton, a chemist, who was arrested and charged at the Police Court yesterday with attempting to murder a married woman named Mary Jane Rayner, was found dead in his cell at Mount Eden gaol at 3 o'clock this mornning. The trouble is said to have arisen out of a dispute with Rayner, and it is suspecled that he committed suicide by means of poison. Tawhiao, with sixty followers, left Alexandra yesterday en route for Napier.
The formation of a New Zealand Pedigree Stock Company is announced: It is an amalgamation of the interests of the Auckland Agricultural Company and Messrs T. and 8. Morrin.
It is said that the money Hardy spent in fatal dissipation was a legacy of £2000 received on his mother's death.
Tawhiao professes indifference as to the Kingites accepting patches of confiscated lands, but expects them to remain true to Kingiem. As for himself, he will remain at Pirangia. Others may distrust him, but he will distrust no one.
An old identity named Thomas Johnson Windsor, of the Castle Hotel, ParnelJ, died yesterday. He was one of the boat's crew of Captain Hobson, the first Governor of the colony.
A German named Stunner has been drowned in the Waikato river, near Tuakau.
