At a further meeting of Singer's creditors to-day it was agreed to accept a compromise of 8s in the £, half cash, and the balance in four months. Debts of upwards of £10,000 were produced. George B. King, Town Clerk of Lawrence, was found dead in his office on Monday night. Oblorodyne was in his possession, and he had been drinking very heavily. At the inquest the jury found that death was caused by asphyxia, accelerated by inadvertently taking an overdose of chlorodyne.

A married woman named M'vickar, residing at South Dunedin, made a determined attempt to commit suicide yesterday hy cutting her throat with a carving knife. She had been suffering from asthma, and had threatened the previous day to drown herself, She died last night

Mr M. Donnelly, journalist, is a candidate for the Peuiusula Beat.

A case of great hardship came before the Police Court yesterday. A woman named Montague sued her husband for £10 due on an order for her maintenance. She has four children, and £160 is due to her upon the order. She is now unable to work to support her children. Her husband is living with another woman, by whom he has four chilren. The magistrate adjourned the case for a fortnight, telling the husband that if he did not pay then he would be sent to gaol for six months.

Constable O'Dwyer who saved Mrs Kitchen's life at the fatal fire in Cumber-land-street Borne time ago, waß last night presented by the City Council with a silver Maltese cross in recognition of his bravery.
