Some further progress has been made in the matter of leasing the West Coast reserves, Mr M'Kay having succeeded in inducing the leading chiefs of the Kicnutahi and Inumae hapus to agree to the leasing of 1560 acres. This will enable the Survey Department to make a start, and, the ice having been broken, there will be less difficulty in the future. The Minister of Lands has authorised falling of bush, the cost to be taken out of the rents.
