MESSRS BANNER AND LIDDLE'S SKIN SALE.

We held our opening sale of skin, hides, and tallow in our new premises at the Spit yesterday. There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was very keen for the various lots, all of which passed the hammer at full rates, as quoted below. Wo were glad to find our arrangements as regards classification, &c, gave very general satisfaction. Skins —655 were catalogued, and sold as follows : — Merino, quarterwoolled, 4id; hsilf-woolled, sf-d; fclirco-quarter-woolled, 6-|d, 6|d, 6|d, 7d per lb. Crossbred, quarter-woolled, 4d; half-woolled, sd, 5-Jcl, 5Jd; three-quarter-woolled, 6ed, 6Ad, 6-jd per lb. Crossbred hogget, 4g-d, oU, G£d, 6i-d per lb. Hides, per lb. Tallow, ljd to 3d per lb.

[by cable.] London, October 24. Consols have advanced one-quarter to 101 f. The market rate of discount has been reduced by one-quavter, and is now at 3-| ; the bank rate remains at 5 per cent. New Zealand securities are firm at last quotations. Colonial breadstuff's continue quiet but firm at the following prices:— Adelaide ■wheat, ex-warehouse, 495; New Zealand ditto, 43s to 46s ; Adelaide flour, ex-ware-house, 345. Australian tallow, best beef 43s 6d, and best mutton 465. Melbourne, October 25. Malting barley is steadier at 5s 4d ; wheat has declined to 6s 6d "for shipping, and prices are barely maintained ; the market for New Zealand oats is very quiet, and and prices have declined 2d per bushel during the week, feeding qualities now being worth 4s 3d to 4s 4d, and milling 4s 4d to 4s 6d.
