WANGANUI.
October 20. The Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual show was held yesterday. The weather was fine, and a large number of visitors from all parts of the coast were present. The exhibits showed a slight falling off in numbers, fcut the quality of the stock of all description showed a great improvement, particularly the horses and cattle. In thoroughbred entires Hippocampus, the property of Mrs W. Walters, of Auckland, gained first (and champion) prize, also a ailver cup for being the beat blood entire on the ground. Cap-a-pie, the property of tbe Auckland Stud Company, was second. Patriarch, Dilke, and Barbarian were also exhibited. The champion prize for Clydesdale stallions was gained by Mr W. Craig'e Sir Robert Bruce. The champion prize for pure-bred bulls was awarded to Sir Hercules, bred by Major M'Lean and Co., of Penrose, Auckland, and now the property of Messrs Arundel and Ross. A railway engine, while going lasts evening over a level crossing, caught a trap containing a man named Conroy and a boy named Wright. Both were seriously injured. There are no hopes of Conroy's recovery. It is stated that the driver of the engine did not sound the whistle.
