DUNEDIN.
October 12. Mr James Rutherford, M.H.R. for Bruce, met about 40 of his constituents at Milton last night. The meeting on the whole was very favorably disposed towards the member, although a feeling appeared to exist that he had favored one portion of his district over others in regard to the construction of roads, and should have voted for Mr Thomson's appointment as Chairman of Committees. He explained his action on these two points minutely, and in the course of bis remarks spoke very favorably of the Government. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a large majority. A large number of entries for the Rifle Association's meeting is received daily, and it is feared that boarding accoramo- | dation will be limited. A special meeting of the Land Board will be held next week to determine tbe subdivision of the forty-six Otago runs to be disposed of in February next year. The Education Board having asked an advance of at least £5,000 for most pressing buildings here, have received a reply from tbe Government that as tbe vote for school buildings comes out of the loan which has yet to be raised the Government can at present make no advance or promises with regard thereto..
