CHRISTCHURCH.
October 9. John Walsh, 82 years of age, who was undergoing a sentence of five years imprisonment, died in Lyttelton gaol on Saturday last. The annual training of the Yeomanry Cavalry commences here to-day. Contingents have arrived from Timaru, Ashburton, Rangiora, &c, and the men are quartered at the drill-shed. They disperse on Saturday next.
