WASTE LANDS BOARD.

Friday, September 29.

The Board met at 11 a.m. Present—The Chief Coaimisiioner (in the cbair), Captain Ruasell, and Mr Rechab Harding. COBBESPONDBNCE. The following correspondence was read: — From the Ranger, reporting upon the present value of improvements on certain forfeited selections taken up on deferred payments, which on being offered at auction had not been bid for. The Ranger recommended a reduction of £5 from the previous valuation of improvements on section 2°, block 3, Norsewood survey district. The improvements on section 6, block 6, Norsewood survey district, he now valued at £50 ; and those on small farm allotment 2, block 3, Kumeroa, Tahoraite survey district, he valued at £30 10s.—It was decided that these selections should again be offered at the next sale at the reduced rates recommended.

From the same, furnishing information relative to the residence of Mrs Nils MadseD, widow of the late bolder of suburban section No. 152, Norsewood.— Tbe Chairman reported that Mrs Madsen and a friend had called at the Land Office on the 25th instant, and that in order to give her time to procure letters of administration he had promised tbat no steps should be taken to declare the land forfeited within three months from date. —Tbe Board confirmed the Chairman's action. From A. Harding, requesting that various applications for land on his run might be extended so as to include the land between the top of banks and streams running through blocks 56, 57. 58, 61, 74, and 75.—Granted, provided that when a selection is intended to be bounded by a stream all the land referred to in the application must be taken by the applicant. From A. B. Jackson, stating tbat he declined to complete tbe purchase of section 20. block 9. Woodville survey district.—lt was decided tbat under section 56 of the Land Act, 1877. the deposit paid must be absolutely forfeited, but that the applicant was not debarred from making another selection, providing he could make the required declaration. From R. E. Hooper, requeuing permission to be absent from bis holding on deferred payments during shearing and harveßt.--It was decided that as tbe applicant would not be permanently employed at any place where he might be shearing or harvesting, the Board saw no objection to his temporary absence from his usual residence. From the Secretary to the Education Board, applying for an extension of the school site at Norsewood.—lt was ordered that the attention of Mr Hill be called to tbe fact that the present school site contains nearly two acres, and tbat there is no Crown land contiguous thereto, and the Board desired to be informed if tbe area already reserved was not sufficient for a BChool site. LICENSE. A license was ordered to be issued in respect of application No. 87 by Arthur Gilbert and John Salmons to take up section 16, block 13, Tahoraite survey district, on deferred payments. The Board then adjourned.
