It ia announced tbat Sir George Bramwell, who resigned the position of Lord Justice of Appeal in September last, has been raised to the Peerage.

The Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, made a speech today at Burnley, Lancashire, in the course of which he stated that, although the Leaguers were continuing a guerilla warfare in Ireland, there were hopeful signs that the agitation in that country was gradually diminishing. Among the chief of these was the fact of tbe increasing tendency which has of late been shown on the part of juries to convict for agrarian offences. It is announced that Her Majesty the Queen will attend in person at the opening of Parliament in February next. December 19. A storm of unusual severity was experienced over a great part of England last night. The wind blew with hurricau force, and caused immense destruction to property in several places. News is to hand from Ireland that the police yesterday proceeded to a house in Dublin, and made an extensive seizure of dynamite, gun-powder, and arms, and in addition a number of documents implicating several people. The persons in charge of the house were arrested, and the arrest of others will be made forthwith. Obituary.—George Edmund Street, the eminent architect, aged 57. The statement which has been current to the effect that the Queen would open Parliament in person is officially denied, ALEXANDEIA. December 18. The steamship Europa, from Australia for London, with a cargo of frozen meat, has passed through the canal. Her cargo is reported to be in perfect condition.
