ST. JOSEPH'S CONVENT.
A very pleasant gathering of parents and friends of the pupils attending the Convent Schools wS« held yesterdaiLrafternoon on the occasion of the prisie distribution. It must have been very gratifying to Fathers Forest and Reignier, who were present, to witness the success of tbeir efforts in the cause of education. After an inspection of a large display of plain and fancy needlework, drawing, and painting, tne following programme was rendered by the children : — Overture, " Don Juan " quartette by Misses Boylan, Sheatb, Douglas, and Willan ; French poetry, Miss Willan; Greek march, duet on four pianos by the Misses Allan, M'Kinnon, Holder, White, Bryson, Mahon, and Hedley ; song, " Love at Home " by the native children ; trio, from " Norma " by Misses Neagle, Bowerman, Pearcy, Henn, Boylan and Baldwin; " Blue Bella of ( Scotland," piano by Miss Willan, accompanied on the harp by Miss Boylan; French poetry, Miss Boylan and Miss Barry ; piano, " Martha," Misses Sheath, Boylan, Bowerman, and Willan; songj " Spring," by pupils of the ladies' school; "En Route," four pianos, by Misses Boylan, Barry, Bowerman, Baldwin, Henn, Willan, Douglas, and Brown; French poetry, Miss Brown and Misfl Bowerman ; song, " The harp that once," piauo by Miss Willan, and harp by Misfl Boylan ; " ZamDa," four pianos, Misses Boylan, Barry, Bowerman, and Willan; French hymn, pupils of ladies' school; " Silvery waves," four pianos, by Misgea Sheath,"Peters, Boylan, Henn, Bowerman, Baldwin, Douglas, and Willan; song, "The Christian martyr," piano, Miss Willan, and harp, Miss Boylan; " Eva," four pianos, by Misses Boylan, Barry, Peters, and Willan. Mr Lee, in the name of Father Forest and the company, thanked the children for their pleasant entertainment, congratulated them upon the success of their studies, and wished them a "Happy Christmas and N<=w Year." This concluded a most enjoyable afternoon.
