LICENSING BENCH.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6. (Beforo H. B. Kenny, Esq., J. A. Smith, Esq., and E. Tuke, Esq. NAPIER DISTRICT. William Stock applied for a transfer of the license of the Victoria Hotel to S. A. Snelling. Granted. James Gray applied for a temporary transfer of the license of the Shakespeare Hotel to the widow of Thomas Edwards. Granted. Heury Fletcher applied for a transfer of the license of the Napier Hotel to James Gray. Granted. John Hislop applied for a transfer of the license of the Masonic Hotel to George Fuszard. Granted. Pl>TAr>E DISTBICT. The widow of James Boggs applied for a transfer of the licence of the Waverley Hotel to H. J. Axford. Granted. The application of A. Macdonald for the transfer of the license of the Taradale Hotel to J. BurtO'i was granted. KGARTJR.ORO DISTRICT. (Before H. E. Kenny, Esq ,T. Tanner, E?q.. J. A. Srul h, Ksq , and J. N. Williams, Eaq ) A. Macdonald applied tor a new license for the Junction Hotel, Kuripapanga. Mr Cornford appeared in Bupport of the application. The Chairman stated that, as there were two applications, and the Bench would only grant one, it would be as well ii the other application were heard. Mr Cornford submitted that if the Bench made it a matter of competition he would put Mr Macdonald to further examination. It was then elicited that Mr Macdonald had built a house costing £1500, and that he had started building before the other application had been put in. , Mr Cornford then contended that there were not sufficient signatures in support of Mr Stephens application. Mr W. F. Stephens applied for a new license for the Kuripapanga Hotel. Mr Lascelles appeared in support of the application. Mr Cornford opposed the application, and pointed out that there was a fatal objection to it through tbe certificate not being io duplicate. The Bench overuled the objection on the ground that the spirit ot the Act had been complied with. Mr Cornford raised another objection, that at the present time the building is not finished, and that it was not io the (••pirit of the Act to license plans. After counsel and witnesses had been heard, the Bench decided to grant licenses to both applicants. S. A. Snelling applied for the transfer of the license of the Pacific Hotel, Hastings, to B Steveriß. Granted.
