MELBOURNE.

A report has reached Melbourne today that a volcanic outbreak baa occurred in the vicinity of Snug River, twenty miles from Hobart, and that there has been a tremeudous landslip with various openings over an area of two miles. Telegrams from Hobart report that there is great excitement there owing to the report, which however requires confirmation. It is now stated definitely that Mr W M. K. Vale, who was a member of the last Berry Ministry, does not intend, as was previously reported to proceed to New Zealand, and to practice at the bar in that colony. November 26. Telegrams received this morning from Hobart in a measure confirm the reported volcanic outbreak near that town. It is believed that the occurrence is due to a coal seam being on fire, but nothing definite is yet known. The prospectus has been issued of a new bank, to be styled the Bank of Australia. The capital is to be £1,000,000. Mr Munro is the promoter.
