WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 23
Present: Councillors Johnston, Dillon, Smith, Bibby, Newman, Hunter, M'Greevy, Ross, and Fountain. On the proposition of Cr. Smith, seconded by Cr. Dillon, Cr. Johnston was unanimously re-elected chairman. Cr. Johnston briefly and courteously thanked the Council, and accepted tbe office. Cr. Smith said he considered it necessary to appoint a Finance Committee at once. Cr. Dillon observed that in his opinion the only business that could be transacted at the annual meeting was the appointment of the chairman. On the ruling of the Chairman, Cr. Smith proposed, and Cr. Newman seconded, that Crs. Bibby, Dillon, and the Chairman, form the Finance Committee
for the ensuing year, two to constitute a quorum. Carried unanimously. Tenders for works to be performed were accepted as follows .-—Three bridges at Woodville, N. Campbell, £23 10s, £21 aud £23 10d ; reducing levels in Vogel-street, Woodville, E. Harding, £21 103 ffl ; Culvert in Oringi bush, A. Gilraore, £1 50a; Ireland's creek bridge, J. Ireland, £70; culvert ia Dickens street, Woodville, E, Harding, £9 18s; formation in Richmond Park, E. White 23s 9d per chain ; delivering gravel on main roads, No. 1, Woburn river to Tuki Tuki, Marony and McGrcevy, l 2e 2d per yard ; No. 2, Bibby's corner to Waldron's, E. White, Is _iod per yard ; No. 3, Waipawa to Kaikora bridge, Maroney and McGreevy 3s 2d per yard ; No. 4, Kaikora to boundary at Te A.ute. G. Berry, 5s per yard ; purchase of council office at Norsewood, J. Jackßon, £4.
Cr Smith gave notice of motion as follows:—'That the resolution passed in Council on tbe Bth of January, 1878, that the money raised as a council rate in each riding be expended in that riding under the superintendence of the county engineer be rescinded. The chairman adjourned the meeting as usual.
