We hear that Mr H. C. Pirani will probably be nominated for Napier at the coming election. Oar report of the Hawke's Bay Philosophical Society's meeting of last night will be found in our fourth page. The only case for hearing at the civil sittings of the District Court on Thursday next is S. E. Snelling v. B. Stevens. The Hawke's Bay portion of the European mails via San Francisco, that arrived at Auckland on Saturday, reached Napier yesterday morning, and consisted of 2389 letters, 1535 books, 4644 newspapers, and 53 registered letters. The following recommendations were acrreed to at the meeting of the Municipal Public Works Committee held last night: — 1. That the portion of the reserve between the Supreme Court and the Fire Brigade station be fixed upon as the site for the proposed Corporation offices. 2. That the report of the engineer be adopted. (4.) That the vouchers for tbe payment of the Corporation laborers be passed and ordered to be paid. According to an advertisement in the Scotsman, of October 5, the Union Steam Ship Company's new 6tearaer Manapouri is to sail from Glasgow for this colony in December. This magnificent steamer is 1800 tons register, with 2000 indicated horsepower. She is fitted with the most recent and approved conveniences. Electric light in the saloon and berths, &c., and is of great speed. The passage to Melbourne is expected to be made in 44 days. The steamer will call at Melbourne, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Auckland, and will also book passengers at through rates to all the Australian and New Zealand ports. No cargo will be carried. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, before H. Eyre Kenny, Esq., R.M., the following civil caseH were dealt •with : —Craig v. W. J. Graham, claim £2 lis 6d ; judgment for plaintiff with costs. Judgment summonses : —Trustees in Somerville's estate v. Hirini Takamoana, claim I £48 ; Mr Lascelles appeared for plaintiffs ; the defendant pleaded that he had no property, but had some money owing to him by Mr 11. R. Ruspell ; order made that the money be paid by the first Tuesday in February next, or defendant to go to prison for two months. Evans v. Hirini Takamoana ; the same order was made in this case. Saeffor v. Henry Neal, claim £2 for money lent; order made that the amount be paid within a month, or defendant go to prison for fourteen days. The business was not concluded when our reporter left. Insomnia, the technical name for sleeplessness, one of the most distressing conditions to which the human system can b« subjected, dragging along in its train, as natural frequences, a combination of equally painful symptoms, each of a destructive character, can only be eradicated by such remedies as operate as a gentle anodyne, soothing the nerves, calming the mind, and quieting the combative causes that produce it; of these Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps stands pro-eminent.
