A PICNIC AT KAIKORA.

A "Lover of the Young" sends us the following tinder date Kaikora, November s:—Having read with much pleasure the correct account given by '• Your own correspondent" of the tea party held at Kaikora on the 3rd instant, on which occasion the ordination of tbe Rev. Mr Robb, of the Presbyterian Church, Kaikora, by the Presbytery of Hawke's Bay, took place, it may not be out of order to give a short account of what took place on the following afternoon. On the dispertion of the school all the children assembled in Mr John Steven's grass paddock adjoining the temporary school house, when a very interesting picnic took place under the superintendence of the Rev. Mr Robb and Messrs Hicks and Steven (the subcommittee, with the ladies who had made themselves so useful in dispensing the "cup which cheers but not inebriates") on the previous evening, and who went to their work with eh erfulnesß to distribute the superabundance of provisions from the previous evening's entertainment. You may be sure justice was done to the good things thus provided. A. young mother who is well known for the love she bears her sex, whether halfcaste or European, displayed that love by joining hands with them in the ring. I think it but right to mention an oversight when the vote of thanks was given to those who justly deserved it. The thanks of the committee should have been given also to Messrs Dillon and White for the use of the school on that occasion, and also to old Mr Steven for the trouble in erecting the tables necessary for tbe accommodation of such a crowd of people and for supplying the firewood,
