KAIKORA.

(FROM OTJB OWN CORRESPONDENT.) November 7,1881. Saturday, tbe stb instant, being the day appointed for the nomination of a candidate to represent the Patangata riding in the Waipawa County Council, the returning officer, Mr Samuel Lozell, read bis appointment and the advertisement to the ratepayers assembled at the hustings at 12 o'clock noon. Mr Alfred Dillon being the only candidate, and having given to the returning officer his nomination paper, he was declared duly elected as a member of the Waipawa County Council. Mr Dillon has been member for the Patangata riding since the last county elections, and has been returned again unopposed, a very good sign that he has done his duty. Mr Aldred Bowden, I believe, intended to oppose Mr Dillon, but was unable to procure a seconder to his nomination. Mr Bowden called a public meeting on Friday evening last in the Railway Hotel. He explained his ideas of bow the affairs of the riding should be conducted by its j/ representative, but, although he was very eloquent, he failed to convince the electors that he was better able to manage county affairs than Mr Dillon. After his election Mr Dillon returned thanks for the confidence placed in him, and said he was proud he was unopposed, as it showed his constituents were satisfied with bis work. He said he would always do his best to get the riding he has the j*" honor to represent a fair share of funds, ■ and see that the money was fairly distributed. .Cricket is reviving a little here. The members of the club were out on Saturday evening, and they enjoyed a very nice evening's amusement. They are improving fast. One of the members has just completed a roller for the ground made of concrete, which is a good piece of handy work.
