HAWERA.
October 20. The railway between New Plymouth and Hawera was opened to-day. The first train took above 200 passengers, and picked up a number at the various stations, several of whom came from Waitara and Tikorangi. The weather was all that could be wished for, the air being clear, tranquil, and the temperature genial. No attempt at any demonstration has been thought of here, and on the train arriving there was not even a cheer. The people here seemed more interested at the receipt of the news that the Government had determined to take action against le Whiti than at the more peaceful victory achieved by penetration through many miles of bush. Several new buildings of considerate size are in course ot erection here, and the road from the railway station to Prosser's Hotel has been opened. The new hotel near the railway station seemed to be doing a good business. By the second tmn fully three hundred persons arrived.
