October 12

It has transpired that His Honor Mr Justice Hargreave, Judge in Equity, has resigned his seat on the bench. It is expected that Sir George Innes, the Minister of Justice, will be his successor.

Dr. Renwick, M.L.A., for East Sydney, has been appointed Secretary for Mines, vice the Hon. E. A. Baker, who resigned his portfolio in August last. All the small-pox patients in quarantine are making satisfactory progresa towards recovery.

Information is to hand from the Fiji Islands announcing that the detached squadron sailed for Yokohama, Japan, on the 15th September, en route for England, all well.

It is now definitely announced that Sir George Innes, the Minister of Justice will succeed Justice Hargreaves as Judge of the Supreme Court.
