JOY IN THE LAW COURTS.
[To the Editor of the Daily Tbleguafh.l Sir,—Taking all things into considers- <L tion I think your reports of the cases • that cqrne befdre the District and Resident Magistrate's Courts are fairly full and correct, but there is one very prominent part of the proceedings that I never see reported. I refer to the numerous sotto voce remarks made by Mr Lascellee during tbe progress of a case. They are full of wit and humour, intensely amusing to listeners, and, what is funnier than all, they are intensely aggravating to the counsel engaged on the opposite side to Mr Lascelles. His Honor the Judge of the District Court said yesterday that they fofmod no" ground of complaint against Mr Lascelles, and that his conduct was perfectly courteous, so that there could be no objections to reporting these funny interpolations by Mr Lascelles. They add zest to the otherwise dry proceedings of the Court, and might amuse your readers.—l am, &c, Q.C. Napier, October 7th, 1881.
