October 4.
A man named John Johnson committed suicide on Friday by hanging himself in the bush near Greytown. He had been drinking previously.
" Les Cloches de Corneville" was performed by Cary's Opera Company last night to a crowded house. Mr Brandon, the member for the Country districts, will not seek reelection.
Mr J. H. Shaw is a candidate for the Te Aro seat.
The following intercolonial weather exchange has been received :—Sydney, Monday evening. Fine weather generally, but cloudy on the south coast. A marked depression of the barometer off Tasmania. The barometer at Albany is 30-3, at Portland 30-0, at Hobart 297, and at Sydney 30.0.
