A man named John Johnson committed suicide on Friday by hanging himself in the bush near Greytown. He had been drinking previously.

" Les Cloches de Corneville" was performed by Cary's Opera Company last night to a crowded house. Mr Brandon, the member for the Country districts, will not seek reelection.

Mr J. H. Shaw is a candidate for the Te Aro seat.
