RE TENDERS SILT TRAPS.
[To the Editor of the DaILT TeIegUAPH.T Sir, —I no doubt with many others was pleased to see your paragraph in last night's issue re the above. Knowing Messrs Luke Sons and Williams, of
Wellington, I have no heaitation in saying thai :i f .bey tendered for a contract they would not fail to carry it out; and saould like to know, in justice to the ratepayers, the answer receive;! by the Municipal Council from the above firm. The difference in Messrs Luke and Co.'s tender and Garry's seeni3 to have been all the trouble, as if it was too cheap; but the difference in N. T. Bird's tender and Garry's did not trouble the Council in the least. As lam informed on reliable authority that the total cost of these traps will be about £1000, then taking the difference of Messrs Luke and Co.'s published tender and that of Mr Garry's the former would effect a saving to the borough of about £300. Like yourself [ have no doubt these matters can all be explained satisfactorily, and remove any misunderstanding that seems to exist at present. As a ratepayer I should like to see the expenses of the borough curtailed to the utmost limit, as we have no money to throw away.—l am, &c, A Ratepayer. September 28, 1881.
