THE WAIPAWA ELECTION.

[To the Editor of fclio Daily Telegraph.] Sir, —In your issue of last Monday (26th September) 1 observed a few uncalledfor sneers at the expense of Mr S. Johnston " from a Woodville correspondent," whoever he may be. He says, "We are all laughing up here," and that " Mr Johnston has enlisted the services of the ladies in his behalf." This is apparently what has made them "all laugh up here"

(in Woodville). I confess I can't see anything funny in ladies taking a healthy interest in politics. Truly Woodville must be very badly off for jokes if that is laughable. I would ask" A Woodville correspondent " if he is a bushman, and

if so what kind ot a one, as he considers this " the wrong season of the year " to "level the bush section." Allow me to state that very many others are having their bush felled just now, and will be during the next month. I could give many names, but need only particularize Mr Ormond. In conclusion I may state that, as a resident of this district, and as a working man, I think [ am as capable as anyone of forming an idea of the state of public opinion hereabout, as regards both Mr Johnston and Mr Smith, and I believe on the whole that opinion is very favorable to these two gentlemen.—l am, &c,

A Working Man, September 28th, 1881.
