THE ELECTIONS.
fTO THB EdITOB OP THB DAILY TBIJ-G-UP&.I Sir, —As you have more than once stated that the general election will be held within three months, it may not be amiss to express a contrary opinion. Ido not tbink tbat the elections will be held before February or March, because, in the first place, there is no necessity tor them to take place sooner—in fact it would be a most inconvenient thing for all classes of the community if political excitement interfered with the harvesting operations, which will not be concluded before January or February; and, in the second place, the Ministry would be bad tacticians to force an appeal to the country when they cannot be said to have achieved any marked success. Political quiet accords better with the Ministerial policy than anything else, and seeing tbat nine months power and pay are obtainable the Ministry are very unlikely to sacrifice either. No exMinister at present living in New Zealand has been much troubled.about fine points of honor when place and pay were at Btake.—l am, &c, Elector. . Napier, September 22, 1881..
