VICTORIA.
The Cabinet has in contemplation the complete reorganization of the Railway Department, from the chief officer downwards.
A great demand has been noticed here for shares in any of the new Tasmanian mines. Five thousand shares in the Orient Tin Mining Company of Hemskirk being offered, ten thousand five hundred were yesterday applied for. Offers bad been made by the various schools and by private teachers to gratitiously educate the children of the late Marcus*C'larke.
The Victorian Horticultural Society received information of the safe arrival and ready and profitable sale of the consignment of Australasian fruit experimentally sent to India. At the inquest on the victims of the railway disaster the fact was elicited that the new tires for the wheels of the carriages were two inches thick, whilst the fractured tire which caused the accident had been reduced by constant wear and repeated turnings in the lathe down to five-eighths of an inch. ISo .regulation wae known to the engine fitters condemning the tires when worn too thin. It was further proved that the speed of the train had not accelerated the accident.
