(Continued from yesterday's issue.) OVERSEER'S REPORT.
The road Overseer presented the following report on the works for the month : — Patangata Riding.—One surface man employed between Kaikora and Patangata. Waipawa Riding. — Improvements have been made on the main road between Te Aute and Waipawa, and side cuttiugs and drains through the Abbotsford run. Stones are 1 being delivered for river crossing at Waipawa. Ruataniwba Riding. — The contract on Ashley-Clinton road will be completed this month, also several small works.. The bridge at Clarke's will be finished shortly. The weather has been very unfavorable for contractors in this riding. Tamumu Riding.—Very little work has been done in this riding during the month. Waipukurau Riding.— One man is employed doing surface work along the Wallingford road. Eparaima Riding.—• Two men are doing surface work. I have not been enabled to go along the main road this month. The road, however, is reported in fair order to Wallingford, but bad from that place to Porangahau. Porangahau Riding.—A man has been sent to improve the bridle-track afc ' Doctor's Gully,' Wainui, reported to be in a bad Btate. Norsewood and Woodville Ridings.—l visited the above ridings last week, and found the bye-roads bad in some places. No improvements can be made during the I continuance of wet weather. The widening of Vogel street at Woodville is almost completed. j Seventy-mile Bush Road. — Three men have been put, on this road to keep ifc in good condition for traffic, pending further instructions from the Council. A. Mackay, Road Overseer. On the motion of Cr. Rathbone, it was agreed to have a proper system of marks and pegs fixed to thoroughly denote Mr Ross' survey of Hampden-road. Proposed by Cr. Rathbone, seconded by Cr. Smith, and carried, that the overseer be instructed to report on roads about Hampden to next meeting of the Council. PAY SHEETS. Pay sheets for tbe month were adopted, on the motion of Cr. Johnston. KATE COLLECTOR. Mr E. Harwood having resigned his position as Rate Collector to the Council, the question of appointing a successor was considered. After a brief consultation, it was proposed by Cr. Mackersey and seconded by Cr. Dillon, that the separate office of Rate Collector be dispensed with, and the clerk be instructed to collect the County rates in future.': The Chairman stated tbat the clerk having recently had ao addition to his salary, and the amended Act not requiring personal delivery of notices, it would not press hard upon the clerk to perform the extra duties of collector. The Council rose at 3 p.m.
