August 23. The action Miles versus Mcllwraith, the Premier of Queensland, to recover penalties from the latter for having while a member of the Assembly been interested in a Government contract has commenced, and evidence has been partly heard. The defence alleges that the contract had terminated before Mr Mcllwraith took his seat in Parliament. August 24. In the action Miles versus Mcllwraith, the plaintiff's case was concluded last night, when defendant's counsel applied for a nonsuit. The Judge, however, decided to allow the case to go to tbe jury. The trial has been resumed today, and defendant's case is now proceeding.
