SYDNEY.
Augdst 28. A report is current to-day tbat the Hon. Mr Campbell has made a donation of £10,000 towards the endowment of a new Anglican Bishopric. On Chong, the Chinese merchant at whose house in George street the first outbreak of small-pox occurred, has sent in a bill to the Government for £2000 for losses sustained through being placed in quarantine. It is stated that Drs. Clune and Coffyn also intend if necessary to sue the Government for damages sustained through their detention in quarantine. Tbe former gentleman, it is said, will claim £10,000. August 24. A crowded public meeting was held last night at the Masonic Hall for the purpose of expressing sympathy with the persecuted Jews in Russia, and raising funds for their assistan3e. Resolutions were passed in accord with the object of the meeting, and a committee was formed to collect subscriptions. Over £1000 were subscribed in the room.
