AUCKLAND.

August 20. The rehearing of the charges of smuggling against Emikili and Polkinhorne has resulted in their acquittal. The ca-e had excited great interest, and fifty witnesses were examined. It resulted in the two men formerly imprisoned lor smuggling being released. Montgomery, formerly manager of tbe British Hotel, has been committed for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting a little daughter of Mrs Sceats.
