August 12.

At a meeting of the Royal Society last night, Mr Caemo Newbery read a paper on the subject of Dixon's gas. The speaker rediculed the patentee's specifications, and was confirmed in his opinion by others who addressed the meeting. Finally the motion was carried unnanimously that kerosene is the sole illuminating ingredient in Dixon's gas. E. A. Baker, Minister of Mines, has resigned his portfolio in consequence of recent debate in the Legislative Assembly, regarding the expenditure of vote to Milburn Creek Copper Company. Julian Solomon, and G. C. Bean, have been appointed sole royal commissioners to enquire into the charges which have been made in this affair.
