LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Thursday. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. BILLS. The Law Practitioners Bill, the Timaru Harbor Board Endowment Bill, the Law as to Fixtures Amendment Bill, and the Distress for Rent Abolition Bill were read a first time. The Timaru Mechanics' Institute Act Amendment Bill was read a ■eoond time. The Drainage Bill and the Taranaki County Council Loan Bill were *cad a third time. The Volunteer Bill passed through committee with many amendments. GAMING- AND LOTTERIES BILL. The Gaming and Lotteries Bill was received from the Lower House with numerous amendments, to some of which the Council assented ; others, however were not agreed to, and managers were appointed to draw up reasons for the disagreement. The Council rose at 6 o'olook.
