WAIPAWA.
(fhom oue own coebespondent). August 11th, 1881. To-night being gloriously fine, I with many other Waipawa residents visited Waipukurau to be present at the anniversary tea meeting and presentation to the Her. R. Fraser. The gathering was held in the Town Hall, tea commencing at 6 o'clock, the tables being provided and superintended by the following ladies :— Mesdames Trestrail and Bowman, and the Misses Inglis, Alderson, Drower, Grant, Palmer, Horton, Jones, Helm, —( Martin, Grant, Machutchinson, and Grant. Quite 200 must have sat down to the repast, and as all the eatables were O.K. and the majority of those present piously inclined, full justice wae done to the good things provided, one young lady being careful to inform me that there was not a solitary tart left. The tables \ having been removed, the public meeting began, being also very well attended. The following Rev. gentlemen were on the platform, Messrs Sherriffs (in the chair), Eccles, Sass, Fraser, Nicholls, Shepherd and Eobb. After the 100 th psalm had been sung, and prayer offered by the Rev. Mr Shepherd. The chairman before commencing the business of the eveniag said, ba bad to apologise for the absence of the Rev. Mr Sidey, who was prevented from being present through severe indisposition. Addressee were then given by the gentlemen above named, Mr Sherriffs having the pleasing duty of making the presentation to Mr Fraser, which consisted of a puree of (70) sovereigns, and a handsomely illuminated address, the recipient briefly thanked his many friends for their munificient gift, and asked to be excused from making a long speech as he was far from well. Great praise is due to Mr Merilees for the very efficient way in which be had trained the choir, as they contributed some roost enjoyable music at intervals during the evening. "Votee of thanks having been accorded to the ladies who provided the tea tables, the speakers, the choir and the chairman, the meeting closed with God Save the Queen. The Key. Mr Fraser leaves for Australia on Saturday, I am sure everybody y in the district wishes him God speed. /
