WELLINGTON.
August 10. Dr. Michael Hanratty was brought up at Featherston on Monday charged with the manslaughter of an infant child of Mathew Cave. The information was dismissed, the Magistrate being of opinion that the evidence adduced was not sufficient to warrant a committal of the accused. In dismissing the case the Magistrate expressed the opinion that on receiving a verdict like the one found in the present instance the coroner ought to have taken upon himself the responsibility of sending the accused for trial. He also pointed out that it was still open to the coroner to do 80.
The steamer Wakatipu, which arrived from Sydney this morning, has been placed in quarantine. The following intercolonial weather exchange has been received:—Sydney, Tuesday. S.W. and W. vviuds continue along the south coast of A' stralia. The pressure is giving way in the west, and the barometer at Albany is 301, at Adelaide 304, and at Sydney 30 7.
A box of tobacco has been seized from the Tramway Hotel, and the proprietor, Charles Plimmer has been charged with having and unstamped box of tobacco in his possession.
