TOWN EDITION. The Daily Telegraph. MONDAY, JULY 18, 1881.

We have very good authority for stating that Mr John Sheehan has signified his intention to stand for trie representation of Napier at the next general electione, in the event of existing electoral boundaries being undisturbed by a Redistribution of" Seats Act. Should, however, the Government be strong enough to carry such a measure through the House Mr Sheehan will seek jsome northern constituency, leaving the Napier town clear for Mr Buchanan. But as it is generally thought that the Ministry will be unable to pass ? Redistribution of Seats Bill, the candidature of Mr Sheehan is an event to which we may look forward. Political parties will tuen arrange themselves in much the same way as at the last genera! elections, with this difference, that the relative strength of the two will be found considerably altered. We shall have Mr Sutton and Captain Russell on the one

fide, and Mr Buchanan with Mr Sheehan on the other. Since the last elections public opinion in this district has under- ! Class is no lenger arrayed against class ; and, tbe old bores having healed, it will be found, we think, that, when the electors once more record their votes, those who were associated with the " Greyite " party will not have to meet the opposition that was brought against them on tbe former occasion.
