The railway line through from Auckland to Helensville opens on the 18th instant.
At the Supreme Court yesterday, Thos. Sims, for the attempted murder of Miss Carline, at Riverhead, was sentenced to three years' hard labor. The Grand Jury returned a true bill in the libel case of Hurst v. Wickbam.
The Te Anau shipped 55 stud sheep at Russell for the Rev. S. Williams, of Te Aute, Hawke's Bay.
The fumigation of the Hero's mails was completed yesterday, and they were brought to town.
At the local meeting of the shareholders of the Loan and Mercantile Agency company to-day Messrs Browning and Firth were re-elected directors, and Mr W. J. Taylor auditor.
