DUNEDIN.

June 15

The Industrial Exhibition was opened yesterday afternoon. There wag a large attendance, and the weather was favorable. Addresses were delivered by the Mayor and Messrs Bathgate and Burt. A holiday was observed by most of the large business places. It will be fally a week before the exhibits are thoroughly arranged. Frederick Reeves, a laborer, died suddenly from heart disease to-day. At the City Court to-day, John Anderson and Edward Hughes, charged with burglary and the larceny of jewellery at Christchurch, were remanded until tomorow. At the gaol yesterday, Hughes made a voluntary statement to Inspector Meldon, implicating himself and others, and took the Inspector to the Ocean Beach, where he unearthed from the sandhills a bag containing a large quantity of Btolen property. Tbe Dunedin Presbytery has repealed a call to the Rev. Mr loglis, of Ballarat. Tbe University of Glasgow has conferred the degree of D.D. on Professor Salmond.
