Thursday. ) The House met shortly before two o'clock, and proceeded to the Council Chamber to hear the Governor's speech. PETITIONS. On the House re-assembling three petitions were presented by Sir George Grey. NOTICES OF MOTION. Mr Hall gave notice of the appointment of the sessional committees. Mr Bunny gave notice that he would move for a return of the civil servants dismissed, the amounts of compensation paid to them, and the number and names of those so dismissed who had been reappointed, together with the amount of salary paid to them under such reappointment. Mr Speight gave notice of a bill to exchange the site of the Auckland Synagogue.

Sir George Grey gave notice of motion for the production of all correspondence, &c, in the matter of the Patetere lands ; also for a return showing the amounts paid to newspapers other than dailies for the publication of Government advertisements.

Mr Hutchison gave notice to ask the Government if they intended introducing an amendment to the Marine Act regulating the number of passengers conveyed by steamers plying on the coast of New Zealand.

Mr Beetham, on behalf of Mr Collins, gave notice that he would move on Tuesday the address in reply to the Governor's speech.

Mr Hutchison gave notice that he would ask whether the Government proposed to introduce a measure for the better regulation of lunatic asylums ; also if the Governor had made any representation to tbe Imperial authorities relative to the imprisonment of Maoris, and if tbe Government would lay copies of any such correspondence on the table ; also'if the Government would take steps to regulate prison labor so as to prventit .ominginto undue competition with ordinary and skilled labor.

Mr Levin gave notice that he. would ask if the Government intended introducing an amended Bankruptcy Bill. At 3 p.m the House adjourned until to-morrow at 2.30.
