NEW PLYMOUTH.

June 8. Mr Benjamin Wellp, editor of the Taranaki News, died last night. He vvas the author of the" History of Taranaki," and at the time of his death was Chairman of the Education Board and treasurer to tbe Harbor Board. His illness was comparatively a short one. Mr Cleary, the station master, had a farewell supper given to him last evening, at which the Mayor presided. The he;ui o: the Railway and Public Works Departments, the principal merchant?, and other influential gentlemen, were present. A testimonial from the employes, accompanied with a purse of sovereigns, was also presented to Mr Cleary, and a general feeling of regret at his removal was expressed. Mr Uleary left for the Waverley station this tnoniiog.
