WELLINGTON.

June 1. At Gear's boiling-down establishment at Petone yesterday, the top of one of the vats refilled with meat blew off, destroying the roof of the building. The occurrence is attributed to the sudden contact of the steam with'the cold iron. No person was injured. The arguments in the cases before the Appeal Court have been finished, and the Court has adjourned until Friday, when judgements will be given. The delegates of County Councils met this morning. Mr Hutchinson, the Mayor of Wellington, was elected chairman, and Mr Page, city treasurer, was appointed secretary. The conference then adjourned until Friday.
