Owing to the representations made by the Ambassadors of the Powers, the Porte bas withdrawn the conditions it had placed upon the proposed cession of territory to Greece and a convention between the Greek and Turkish Governments in final settlement of the frontier difficulty will, it is now understood, be signed without delay.
An enquiry has been held into the confession of the four domestics of the Tcherazin Palace, that they were concerned in the murder of the Sultan Abdul Aziz in 1876. The evidence aaduced bas led to the accusation of Midbat Pasha (who was Grand Vizier at tbe time of the Sultan's death) of complicity in the crime. An imperial decree has accordingly been issued deposing Midhet Pasha from the position be occupies as Governor of Smyrna, and ordering his arrest. News has, however, since been received from Smyrna to the effect that Midhat Pasha has fled from the city. Later. Intelligence has been received by the Government from Smyrna that Midhat Pasha has not, as at first stated, fled from the city, but taken refuge in the French Consulate, and has appealed to the French and other foreign consuls for protection from arrest by the Turkish authorities.
