NEW PLYMOUTH.
May 12. Intelligence has just reached town of an attempt made on Tuesday evening to throw a ballast-engine off the line between Eltham and Ngaire. A large stone was put on the line, and before the engine could be stopped it had run against it with such force as to cause the iron girders to bend almost double. No one was hurt.
