A telegram from Archbishop "Steins, tbe Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, wbo left for Europe via Sydney in illhealth, reports that His Grace is so much worse that he remains at Sydney, being unable to proceed on bis journey. The dwelling place of George Westbury, platelayer, Whangamarino, was burnt on Sunday night through a kerosene lamp having exploded. The store and residence of Mr D. M. Darroch, Upper Matakana,' was burnt on Sunday night.
A report is current among the Frenchmen resident in Auckland ' that a war steamer is on her way hither for the purpose of transporting them to the fatherland from which they have so long been exiled. A large proportion of them intend to embrace the opportunity of returning to France.
