' Have you lieard Sappho ?' asked Lysistratus. ' No/ responded Philocrates. ' Are her readings a success ?' ' Oh, crowds attend them. The -women go in swarms.' * Ah, thon tho fair sex aro beginning to appreciate good poetry.' ' Well,' said Lysistratus, ' I don't know that one can exactly say that. The truth is that Sappho puts on a different dress for each poem, and the women do appreciate a wardrobe.
