CHRISTCHURCH.
April 19. At the races yesterday William Deakin, an elderly man, attempted to cross tbe running course as the horses in the back race were coming in. He was knocked down and died in a few momenta afterwards. Mr Redwood's racing stock, and tbe young stock from Bundoora stud, Victora, were offered for sale by auction this morning. There was a small attendance, and not one of the lot was sold. All were passed in either because there was no bid, or because the bids did not reach the reserve prices.
